Central Taunton

Join us at The Sangha House in the heart of Taunton.

If you’ve never meditated before, it can be difficult to know what to expect.

Our classes give you time to stop, settle and explore meditation through guided practice. You don’t need to arrive with a quiet mind or be able to “switch off” your thoughts.

Arrive and settle

Take a few moments to arrive, get comfortable and leave some of the busyness of the day behind.

Guided meditation

The teacher guides you through the practice, so you don’t need to know what to do beforehand.

Time to notice

Meditation involves noticing what is happening in your experience rather than trying to force your mind to become blank.

Space to reflect

Depending on the session, there may also be teaching, reflection or an opportunity to ask questions.

Do I need to be Buddhist?

Some meditation taught at The Sangha House draws on Buddhist practice and understanding, but you don’t need to be Buddhist or hold any particular beliefs to take part.

You’re welcome to approach the practice simply as an opportunity to explore attention, awareness and your own experience.

The meditation classes are just 30 minutes long. We start with a brief introduction to an area of meditation. Talk about challenges in meditation and perhaps aspects of life-challenge. Then we guide you through a meditation.

There is also an opportunity to explore meditation in the weekend Tai Chi classes for beginners, where the session starts with 30 minutes of meditation. See the details of Tai Chi classes here ->

What should I wear?

Whatever you feel comfortable sitting in.

Do I have to sit on the floor?

If you wish to, you can sit on a cusion or meditation stool, but a simple chair is just fine. You MUST be comfortable!

What if my mind wanders?

That’s a normal part of meditation. The practice is noticing and returning, not trying to keep the mind perfectly still.

Can I ask questions?

If something is unclear, you’re welcome to speak to the teacher. These are very relaxed, informal sessions, so do feel free.

Our meditation class is taught by Andy Spragg, practicing Buddhist.
